As I have indicated before, I have a little bit of fear when it comes to basic bike maintenance. I have learned a lot over the years of triathlon, but still have a lot to learn about taking care of my bike. I still haven’t tackled anything remotely close to tuning my bike, but I have learned how to clean it, I try to make sure my chain is taken care of, and it is important for me to be able to change my tires. I cannot say I am the most efficient at it, but I learn a little more each time.
One tool that helps tremendously with any bike maintenance, and even the easy things I mention, is a bike stand. We have a fold-able one that doesn’t take up too much space in the garage, but allows my bike to be at my height when doing something to it. I also think it is better on my bike than turning it upside down while I remove the tires.
There are many on the market. This is the one that we have, so it is the one I can speak to, and it has worked wonderfully. It isn’t big and heavy, and as I said it folds down nicely. Everything is adjustable – height and the mechanism to hold the bike, which it can do at different angles.
Here is someone else’s review of the bike stand I have along with a few others.
