Today I am going to share this story with you.
It is written by an author and friend in Juneau, Alaska who shares about the 2008 power outage. At the time, I considered Juneau my home, but I was attending law school so I do not remember this event personally. However, I think it is a powerful story to learn about or remember.
Even if you do not live in Juneau, it is a story about a town’s drastic change in the face of astronomical electricity costs. It may provide a glimmer of hope in the face of changes we will need to make in the coming decades. As I write this in mid-December in Alaska and it is 40 degrees out, and this summer we had so little rain that we worried our town would again have to turn to diesel and the same electricity costs as in this story.
