Where is the line between what’s legal and what’s right?
When at work, we can portray different messages. We have a right to be who we are and true to that person. Even as a government employee, we can portray a level of who we are, though we also speak and interact on behalf of that government body.
Yet, in all interactions with others, exercising that ability to voice our interests, concerns, and beliefs has an effect on those around us. It can have a chilling effect, and also a bonding effect.
It’s worth being aware of those silent messages and to decide when and where and what to convey. Sometimes it’s appropriate to find the common ground and to ignore areas of disagreement. Other times it’s important to be true to yourself and express who that is.
What’s right for you today, right now, right here?
