I spoke to someone famous! Not really, but I feel like I got really close. It is someone I admire and can’t believe I spoke to her.
To be clear, I admire her husband’s work (this super awesome blog and he gave a really amazing TED talk which is a dream of mine). And through the husband I found out that she is starting a company to offer a new kind of healthcare. I am completely enamored by what she is doing. I think it is a great vision, and I think it’s going to be an idea that spreads. Thus, my excitement means that to my mind she is an inaccessible famous person.
So the fact that I got to speak with this person who I admire simply blows my mind.
And what I realize, and the point of this post (because the point is not actually about healthcare or business), is that people with HUGE ideas and HUGE potential…they are real people too. They are people that start out just like you and I, with dreams and determination and grit.
Do you want to learn something? Who has done it before that you can reach out to? Maybe they will be too busy…or maybe you will get to have the conversation of your life. It’s easy to think we can’t access information and people, but if we all think that, what’s the outcome then?
P.S. Do you want to know what’s even more cool than talking with this person I admire? We share a birthday! And we both went to law school. That’s right. I think we are going to be the best of friends someday.
