I heard a distinction recently and I think the person was saying that work is something you do for others, and therefore maybe best not to make your hobby your work for money because it might lose the appeal if suddenly you have to do it in a way to satisfy others and not just yourself.
But then where is the line? If we want to find work that is deeply meaningful to us and doing something great for others, that will probably bring deep joy. Service is a really good feeling and can satisfy in and of itself even if you are serving and getting paid for it.
So I think it isn’t always the case that we shouldn’t turn passion into business, but as always we should be wary and be open to going back to keep that passion just for ourselves. And in the same vein, you may also find that you’re happier having a job that is just a job and finding deeper meaning elsewhere.
Very insightful.
