I dreamt that I was racing Ironman New Zealand. Sounds great…except that I signed up just a few weeks ahead of the race and hadn’t done any long distance training prior. It didn’t occur to me until the race was starting that maybe this was a poor idea.
Many people keep a certain level of fitness so that they are always ready to do a race of a particular distance if the opportunity arises. Perhaps a 5K, a half marathon, or an Olympic distance triathlon. I think my body might rebel if I were prepared for an Ironman anytime one pops up…though I think there are people that do a bunch of races each year and do keep up a high level of distance endurance.
I think my dream was spurned by the decision I have ahead : whether to start training for Ironman Cozumel in late November. It is time to start training, but I have a lot going on right now and I question whether training long hours is how I want to spend my time, I have already done a 2019 Ironman so I would feel okay not picking up another one, money reasons, and we may not be able to get good flights on a mileage ticket.
What triathlon decisions are you struggling with?
