Setting the smallest goal possible.

I did it. I finally rode my bike outside!

While this sounds crazy for someone usually training for triathlon, I don’t often ride outside. There are many mental barriers I face from weather to weird worries that I will be inconvenienced by a flat tire, and worse that I will be on the side of the road unable to fix it and forced to figure out plan B.

I didn’t go long or hard. I told myself that getting outside was enough. And frankly, any amount truly did feel great and like I had really accomplished something.

When we don’t want to do something in the short term that we actually really want to do for how we want to live our lives overall, setting the smallest goal possible can be a great place to start.
