When I was in middle school my father occasionally tried to convince me to take a Monday off school to ski on a bluebird powder day.
As I recall it, I never wanted to. I always wanted to get back to school where I was “supposed to be.” Yes… I was one of those kids that always wanted to do the right thing- whatever I thought that was.
In hindsight I recognize that a day in school in 7th grade is not really a make it or break it situation.
As an adult I still play the same games. I still do what I feel like I am supposed to do and often consider work to be of overblown importance. It is helpful to think about the past where I can see more clearly. It says if that was a different person- which I suppose back then I was.
We can learn a lot from our past versions of ourselves!
