I recently listened to Adam Grant live at the How I Built This Summit, and he shared that trained scientists are more likely than others to build successful businesses. Why? Because they pivot when appropriate. They can more easily accept evidence that something isn’t working, and then move on to try out something else to see if it is working.
When we get locked into our idea and cramming it into the world because it is such a good idea (and the others just don’t understand why not), that is where people run into trouble.
Of course, then you look at founders who built amazing companies that didn’t work for years and years.
There will never be a clear answer, but it is great insight to look at our decisionmaking with an open mind. It’s okay if our idea isn’t working, try something new and figure out what will work!
